Apparently I’m going to be doing a live-blog while I watch Supernatural for the first time.
My best friend Brian (of my sometimes-updated comic Why I Love Brian) is a massive fan of the show, and has wanted me to watch for ages, and since Tumblr is also such a big fan, I figure it’s about time.
If you’re interested in following my project, go ahead and track the tag ‘Alyssa Watches Supernatural’. Tell your friends! It would be nice to have some company as I go! (But please, no spoilers!) :)

I watched the Pilot with Brian at the end of last summer when I visited my hometown to buy my wedding dress. (Rather, I rewatched it, since I DID see it when it premiered years ago, but I lost interest. I know, I know!)
That was awhile ago, but I’m not all that interested in rewatching it since I remember most of the plot details. The point is Brian is not afraid of anything, and I am a scaredy-cat, so here goes.
Synopsis: The story begins with the Winchester family, in Kansas—mom, dad, and two young sons (one a kid of about 6, one an infant). The mom is brutally and mysteriously murdered by a demonic force. The surviving family essentially become demon hunters hellbent on finding the thing that murdered their matriarch. Fair enough.
Most of you know the infant son (who is all grown up now) as floppy-haired Dean from Gilmore GirlsĀ (Jared Padalecki). He is still floppy-haired, but is now known as Sam. Sam is a student at Stanford with a cutie-pie blonde girlfriend named Jess (who you may recognize as Adrienne Palicki/Supergirl from Smallville, or that terrifically bad and short-lived Wonder Woman series).
The elder son, Dean (played by another Smallville alum, Jensen Ackles—what? I was a Smallville fan!) apparently carried on the demon-hunting trade while Sam took some time off to go to college. He shows up unexpectedly at Sam’s dorm with a message that their dad is missing, and has left behind his journal. This is Very Unusual, as their dad ALWAYS has his journal, because it’s his encyclopedia of every evil thing ever.
Sam hesitates, but eventually does go with Dean. They meet up with a mystery not long after, of course. It involves a mysterious and translucent girl who hitches rides with unsuspecting men who she then murders. We find out later on that she is the ghost of a woman whose husband was unfaithful, so she lures and seduces other unfaithful men to their deaths. Oop.
Sam and Dean solve the case, and Sam heads back to Stanford. WHERE HE FINDS HIS GIRLFRIEND MURDERED IN THE SAME WAY HIS MOM WAS. So he decides to keep hunting demons with Dean because NOW IT’S PERSONAL. (I guess his mom wasn’t?)
Biggest Scare Moment: The mom and Jess pinned to the ceiling AUUGHHH
Dean Charm Quotient: I’ve heard endless things about his charm, but I’m not going to rank him quite yet—I want to get to know him a little better.
